Kanat Makhanov

Abstract

This study analyzes the integrational process of the Eurasian Union from the point of view of trade between the member-states as well as with other countries using different estimation techniques and trade indices. The estimation results have shown that the integration has produced shifts between the member-states of the union. However, this effect was different across industries. Many industries with higher value added capacity flourished contributing to the mutual trade whereas other industries with lower value added capacity has shown no change in response to the integrational measures taken by the member-states of the union. From the point of view of international trade, the priorities and policy objectives of the countries differ a lot, which indicates to the fact that the integrational initiative of the member-states of the union are also motivated by non-economic factors.
