Investigating The Attitudes of Prospective Teachers Towards Teaching Profession

Abstract


Purpose of this this study is to examine the attitude of prospective teachers towards teaching profession. In this study in order to collect necessary data concerning the attitude of prospective teachers towards teaching profession, Teaching Attitude Scale were used. This scale is a Likert scale consisting of 35 items. Participants of this study are graduates of mathematics, nursing, sociology, turkish language literature departments and completed preservice teacher education curriculum courses at Education faculty of Kırıkkale University.

In order to examine if there is any significant differences regarding the attitude of prospective teachers towards teaching profession in terms of their departments and gender, independent samples t-test  and one-way analysis of variance were used. According to findings of the study, the attitude of prospective teachers towards teaching profession are not meaniningfuly different in terms of gender and departments.Moreover, results have shown that the attitude of prospective teachers towards teaching profession is generally positive and this result can be considered as motivational resource for professional development.
