Pre-service Science Teachers Perceptions about Project

Abstract


The aim of this study is to reveal the opinions of prospective teachers studying in the field of Science Teaching about “Project” by using Word Association Test. The research was carried out in accordance with the situation pattern from qualitative research types. The data of the study were collected from the students at the same department of Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University in 2018. The participants were asked to write 10 words coming to mind about “Project”. The responses were recorded separately from a to z and the words with the same meaning were grouped under common expressions and the frequency was calculated for each keyword. According to the collected frequencies, the words were included in the concept web prepared according to the breakpoints in order to identify the conceptions about project in the minds of the prospective teachers. According to the findings obtained from data analysis, it was concluded that teacher candidates were insufficient to produce words for project concept. The results of the study may be the basis for determining the conceptual knowledge levels of the prospective teachers on the project, identifying their misconceptions and revealing their mental schemes for the project concept and training the pre-service teachers in project based learning / teaching.
