Türkiye’deki Enflasyon ve Nominal Faiz Oranı İlişkisinin Analizi: Bayer-Hanck Eşbütünleşme Testi

Özet

Nominal faiz oranları ile enflasyon arasındaki ilişki ve bu ilişkinin yönü iktisat ve finans literatüründeki tartışmalı konulardan birisidir. Fisher Hipotezi (Etkisi) olarak adlandırılan bu ilişki, reel faiz oranının uzun dönemde sabit olduğu varsayımı altında, nominal faiz oranının enflasyon oranı ile birebir değiştiğini ileri sürmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Türkiye’de enflasyon ve nominal faiz oranı ilişkisi, 1973-2016 dönemi için incelenmiştir. Çalışmadan elde edilen sonuçlar, incelenen dönemde Türkiye’de Fisher etkisinin geçerli olmakla birlikte, bu etkinin zayıf olduğunu göstermiştir. Fully Modified OLS (FMOLS) ve Dynamic OLS (DOLS) test sonuçlarına göre ise enflasyon oranındaki 1%’lik bir artış faiz oranını 0.77% artırmaktadır.

Analysis of the Relationship Between Inflation and Nominal Interest Rate in Turkey: Bayer-Hanck Cointegration Test

Abstract

The relationship between nominal interest rates and inflation and the direction of this relationship are among the most controversial issues in the economics and finance literature. This relationship, also known as the Fisher Hypothesis (Effect), suggests that the nominal interest rate is to change simultaneously with the inflation rate, assuming that the real interest rate is constant over the long-term. In this study, the relationship between inflation and nominal interest rate in Turkey is examined for the period 1973-2016. The results obtained from the study indicate that the Fisher effect in Turkey is valid but rather weak in Turkey during the period studied. According to Fully Modified OLS (FMOLS) and Dynamic OLS (DOLS) test results, a 1% increase in the inflation rate increases the interest rate by 0.77%.
