Examining The Relationship Between The Authentic Leadership Behaviour of School Administrators and The Level of Organizational Silence and Organizational Trust By Teachers

Abstract


The purpose of this study is to determine in what way and at what level the school administrators' authentic leadership behaviour affect the levels of organizational silence and organizational trust, according to the perceptions of primary and secondary school teachers. This research used the relational survey model. In this research, Authentic Leadership Scale developed by Walumbwa, Avolio, Gardner, Wernsing and Peterson’s (2008) was used. In addition, Organizational Trust Scale developed by Yılmaz (2006)  and Scale of Employee Silence developed by Karabağ Köse (2013)  were used. The research population of this study comprised of 3554 teachers in total, working in 86 primary school (1580) primary school teachers) and 65 secondary (1974) branch teachers) schools in Batman province during the 2017-2018 academic year. In this context, descriptive statistics and correlation between variables were calculated using SPSS 21 and the research model was tested using AMOS 22 program. The path analysis results indicate that the perceptions of the teachers, the authentic leadership behavior of school administrators increases the organizational trust of the teachers, whereas it decreases their perceptions for the levels of organizational silence. Likewise, the results also indicate that  as the teachers’ organizational trust levels increase, their perceptions for the levels of organizational silence decreases. Moreover, the authentic leadership behavior of school administrators appears to be a stronger predictor on the levels of being organizational silence compared to organizational trust.
