Abstract

Nowadays, in Europe and in the Western world in general, immigration is a phenomenon that is present and interrelated with the economic, political and social life of every country. Although there are established structures for its management, in the international sphere, there is vivid a long debate about the erosion of the welfare state because of the presence of immigrants in a country. Based on this point of view, but in a more theoretical context, it would be interesting to see what correlation is between the management of immigration and the welfare state. In order to identify the correlation between immigration management and the welfare state, we will focus on analysing 4 different immigrants host countries that have immigration management systems and welfare states developed. We choose France, Canada, Sweden and Greece as examples of four different groups of welfare states according to international typologies. Further, the most important is to identify the factors that have impact on the correlation between immigration management and the welfare state for every country of the analysis but also in general.

As results of this analysis we got that the correlation of the welfare state and the management of the immigration may be influenced by a range of factors such as: The economic development, the model of management of cultural differences, the structure of public institutions within the state, the power of the trade unions ect.  The shape of this correlation it depends on the dynamic power of each of this factors.
