Abstract

Political Sociology is a kind of discipline overlapping or junctions of sociology and politics. Politics cannot be understood without sociology as vice versa. On the other hand, as a discipline political sociology appeared under discipline of sociology after second half of the 20th century. Of course, political thinkers or philosophers always observed and cared society from emerging of political society and institutions. However, politics as a core point of society emerged as a discipline during cold war. In this work, we focus interdisciplinary studies. Modern science generally focuses partial sides of matters. Thus, one of the shortcomings of modern science and scientists is that they do not have holistic perspective. It may be understood that philosophers may have ability to consider science and knowledge by holistic approach since level of science was not very comprehend at the past. After revolution of ındustry, and enlightenment it was impossible to be like past. Thus, by progress of humanity and civilization modern science lead to approve objects with micro perspective. Certainly, there are advantages and disadvantage of ancient and modern science. Both disciplines of local governments and political sociology has similar journey. Political sociology depicts that state is not only actor in modern world. Global, civil, religious, commercial, ethical entities and media are also very important elements shaping and guiding politics and state. By development of technology and democracy individuals have more fundamental rights and freedoms. This output of democracy and human civilization may show and make feel it on the local governments. Instead of representative democracy participatory, accountable and transparent democracy more desired and reasonable in the modern world. In this sense, local governments exactly are a kind of shadow, arena and output of political sociology. In this study, we try to compare and criticize both sides of matters in regards of local governments and political sociology overlapping as good examples of interdisciplinary studies.
