Abstract

The spoken discourse of Gjakova city with surrounding villages according to the lexical corpus we have verified on the field, based on the dialectological and religious point of view presents a number of interlingual influences of various sources that will be discussed in the study.

Inhabitants of the municipality of Gjakova belong to Muslim and Catholic religion. Some of the villages around Gjakova are mostly Catholics, which will be treated in the expressive variation derived by our field research.

A common feature that distinguishes Balkan languages from other Indo-European languages of the continent is also the presence of a layer of words taken from Turkish, which some researchers simply call ‘’turkishness’’ in albanian turqizma or ‘orientalisms’ in albanian orientalizma, since a good part of them are sourced from Arabic and Persian, and Turkish was only interconnected language among them. As in all standard and non-standard Albanian language, even in Gjakova's spoken dialect we encounter a lot of turkish and serbian words, which are mostly evident in the Muslims' utterance. We have met a lot of people of different ages, but mostly turkish words have been encountered at the third age, while serbian words at the middle age. At this age, we have not only encountered serbian words but also the turkish ones were pretty present during their daily communication. The third age, which had mixed their speech with turkish words were mostly women. The largest percentage of respondents in the study were housewives. These differences that we have encountered are closely related to the traditions and unwittingly became the social division of work and the family, therefore took the character of the household especially in the villages of Gjakova city.

Key words: lexical corpus, the third age, turlishness, female gender, household.
