Abstract

One of the major demographic problems that most countries are currently facing is the rapid growth of the elderly population. Polish Red Cross (Polish: Polski Czerwony Krzyz, abbr. PCK) has been working for the benefit of the senior-citizens for many years, enabling them to live dynamically and helping them continue their activities in the form of voluntary work. PCK tries to influence the change in the perception of the elderly by larger society, in particular by children and adolescents. Projects implemented by PCK give people over 65 years old a chance to actively participate in social life. The organization runs specialized centers for the senior-citizens (community centers, clubs), which aim is to activate elderly people who have a passive attitude in life. PCK offers them a support that guarantees the longest possible preservation of their intellectual and physical condition. This article is an attempt to present the overview of the various forms of support offered by PCK to senior-citizens.
